Obituary of Rose Peterson
A funeral service for Rose Peterson, age 93, of Spirit Lake, will be held Friday, February 7, 2020 at 2:00PM at Turner Jenness Funeral Home in Spirit Lake. Burial will be at Lakeview Cemetery. Visitation will begin hour prior to the service at the Turner Jenness Funeral Home.
Rose Elizabeth Zich was born April 17, 1926 at the family farm in Petersburg Township, Jackson County, Minnesota to Joseph Zich and Antonia Brabec Zich.
Rose attended Petersburg Country School (District 75), which was just behind the family farmsite, graduating 8th grade. She then attended Jackson High School graduating with the Class of 1944. Rose graduated from Glenwood Hills Hospital School of Psychiatric Nursing, Minneapolis in 1946.. After graduation she was employed at Fairmont Community Hospital 1949 - 1959. Jackson Municipal Hospital 1959 - 1964. Hilltop House 1965 - 1968. Halloran House. Spirit Lake Vet Clinic and Hobson Vet Clinic where she was office aide and vet aide. Rose retired from Dickinson County Memorial Hospital in 1991 where she was head of housekeeping for many years.
Rose married Wayne Peterson on May 21, 1948 at Jackson Minnesota. They enjoyed traveling. Rose and Wayne lived in Chrisney Indiana when Wayne was transferred from Jackson for his work with MN Egg Company in Rockport Indiana. Rose and Wayne returned to Spirit Lake in 1965, living on the north shore of Big Spirit Lake until purchasing their home on Jackson Avenue in 1966. After Wayne died in April 1968, Rose continued to live there until October 2004 when due to failing health she moved to Hilltop Nursing home. Rose lived at Hilltop/Accura HealthCare until her death on February 3, 2020.
Rose was accepted into First United Presbyterian Church in Spirit Lake by Baptism and Confirmation on April 4, 1982.
Rose loved music...especially Lawrence Welk and other Big Bands, dancing, gardening, visiting with her friends and family, traveling in her younger years, reading and preparing her monthly newsletter “Scribes” with her friend Marilyn. They sent out these newsletters full of interesting clippings and sayings to friends and family for many years. Rose loved watching the Minnesota Twins on TV with her neighbor and friend Jim Walston.
Rose was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Wayne Peterson; brothers, John (Eleanor) Zich and Edward (Ernestine) Zich; sisters, Mildred Zich and Frances (Emil) Swanson; half-sister, Julia (Emil) Johanek; half-brother, Albert (Ellen) Najt; niece, Betty (Robert) Crissinger.
Rose is survived by niece, Shirley (LeRoy) Ling; nephews, Eugene (Theresa) Swanson and William (Dianne) Swanson; niece, Lillian (Carl) Larson; also great-nephews and great-nieces.
