Obituary of Nancy Christenson

A Celebration of Life Service for Nancy Chapman Christenson, 85, of Spirit Lake, will be held Wednesday, September 20, 2023, at 11:00am at Turner Jenness Funeral Home in Spirit Lake. Visitation with the family present will begin at 9 am, Wednesday, until service time at the funeral home.

Nancy Kay Christenson was born on April 20, 1938, the daughter of Frank and Helen (Nicolaisen) Chapman, in Spencer, Iowa.  She was raised in Terril, until the family moved to Spencer, where she graduated from Spencer High School.

Nancy was united in marriage to  Harlan Buck Christenson on June 28, 1957 in Spencer, Iowa.  The couple moved to Spirit Lake in 1959, where they made their home and raised their family.  Nancy worked as an Assistant Elementary Librarian for Spirit Lake Community School.

Nancy was a member of the United Methodist Church in Spirit Lake.  She kept active playing Mahjong, Bridge and was engaged in Book Club.
Nancy passed away on Sunday, September 17, 2023 at Lakes Regional Healthcare in Spirit Lake at 85 years of age.

She is survived by her husband, Harlan Christenson; Frank Christenson (Michelle), Jenny Kisner (Roy), Laura Kabele (Chris) and Alex Christenson; seven grandchildren and nine great grandchildren.  She is also survived by siblings, JoAnn Kendall, Kathy Petersen (Phil), and Patricia Severson.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Frank and Helen Chapman, in-laws, William and Naomi Christenson and grandson, Nicholas Colglazier.

In lieu of flowers, memorials will be given to the Friends of Spirit Lake Library.
