Obituary of Gaylin Derold Johnson
Gaylin Derold Johnson was born May 20, 1934 in Spencer, Iowa, the son of Martin and Gertrude Elnora (Mills) Johnson.
On July 9, 1966, Gaylin was united in marriage to Ethel Mohr in the Little Brown Church in the Vale in Nashua, Iowa. The family lived on a farm northwest of Terril, Iowa until 2009 when they moved to Homestead in Spirit Lake, Iowa.
Gaylin grew up attending the Seven Day Adventist Church and after they were married, became a member of the Terril United Methodist Church. He enjoyed bowling, farming, taking vacations and watching the Twins baseball team. He was a volunteer driver for the VA van and he enjoyed helping out at the Terril Elevator in the spring. Socializing was very important to him and he was always on the go. He dearly loved his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Gaylin passed away August 4, 2010 at St. Mary's Hospital in Rochester, Minnesota at seventy-six years of age.
He is survived by his wife, Ethel; children, Alberta (Dale) Nelson, Steve Johnson, Nancy Johnson and her friend, Scott, Mike (Jeri) Johnson, Gay Lynn Johnson and Louise Galbraith; thirteen grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren; one brother, Phillip (Marian) Johnson and sister-in-law, Jeri Johnson.
Gaylin was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, Ron Johnson; one grandson, Tait Johnson.
He will be missed by many friends and family
