Obituary of Eloise Lambert
Eloise Josephine Lambert, 98, was born on November 12, 1913 on a farm in Spirit Lake, Iowa, the oldest child of Roy and Josephine (Berg) Lambert. Her early years were spent amid the rural scene where she attended a country, one-room schoolhouse located north of the farm. Eloise was an excellent student especially in reading, spelling, punctuation, and attendance. After eighth grade graduation from Orleans Independent School, Eloise assisted her parents on the farm. She nurtured orphan lambs back to health, took care of the chickens, as well as gardening, canning, sewing and many other responsibilities. Eloise moved to town with her parents in 1956 where she cared for them until their passing. At that time, she was employed at the Spirit Lake Community School in food service, working fulltime, and employed by Spirit Lake Bakery at night. She then went fulltime at the bakery until her retirement.
Eloise never married but she loved her nieces and nephews and nurtured her garden and cared for her many beautiful flowers as though they were her family. Violets were her specialty. Eloise was an avid reader, especially books on horticulture. Cultivating was a true art and science for her. She was baptized in the Christian faith and a longtime member of St. Mary's Church, seldom missing a church service. For many years, Eloise was recognized for her devotion to volunteering at the church with funeral dinners until her health declined.
Eloise is survived by two sisters, Mary (Chet) Phillips of Spirit Lake, Iowa and Dorothy Ukasick of Sioux Falls, South Dakota, as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Eloise was presided in death by her parents, Roy and Josephine Lambert; brothers and wives Lawrence and Louise Lambert, Elmer and Julie Lambert, Wiley and Molly Lambert, Jim and Alice Lambert, Joe and Inez Lambert; brother-in-law Steve Ukasick; nieces Martha Rolfes, Denna Lambert; nephew Jim Phillips.
Eloise went into Well-Life Assisted Living in March of 2008, suffered a mild stroke, then to Hilltop in September 2008.
A special thank you to all the care providers from Lakes Regional Hospice, Hilltop Care Center, Dr. Carlson and medical team for providing Eloise with such quality and professional care during the past three years.
You are invited to join the family in the fellowship hall immediately following the interment.
The family acknowledges, with deep appreciation, the kind expressions of sympathy, concern and interest shown them during this time of sadness. We wish to thank you for being in our lives and sharing the celebration of Eloise's life.
