Obituary of Lewis Pogeler
Lewis William Pogeler was born April 24, 1924 in Manson, Iowa, the son of John and Lena (Carstens) Pogeler. He graduated from Manson High School in 1942. Lewis served his country during WWII. He was drafted by the US Army in 1943 and received his basic training at Camp Polk, Louisiana. He was sent to the European front, where he served until the end of the war.
On March 8, 1952, Lewis was united in marriage to Ermal Louise Niday in Manson. He worked as a meat cutter at Hormel for many years before his retirement in 1980 when the family moved to Arnolds Park. Lewis was a member of the First Lutheran Church in West Okoboji and the VFW in Manson.
Lewis enjoyed fishing and woodworking. He enjoyed participating in sports in school and in the later years watched high school sports and followed the Iowa Hawkeyes.
Lewis passed away June 22, 2010 at Hilltop Care Center in Spirit Lake at eighty-six years of age.
He is survived by his wife, Ermal Pogeler; son, Martin Pogeler and Rondie Miller; daughter, Debra Ellis; son-in-law, Roger Ellis; grandchildren, Angela Ellis, her husband, Eric Morser and their son, Nicholas, Shannon Ellis and her husband, Adam Froeber, Brett Ellis and his fiancé, Alicia Aberg; brother-in-law, Lester Munson; sister-in-law, Opal Johnston; numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, siblings, Dorothy Munson, Leo Pogeler and Glenn Pogeler.
