Obituary of Pauline Marie Hartung
Pauline Marie Hartung, age 86, of Spirit Lake, passed away April 7, 2010 at Franklin General Hospital Nursing Facility in Hampton, Iowa near her daughter's home. She was born on December 20, 1923 in her home in Lottscreek, Iowa to William and Marie (Davis) Voigt.
She grew up in the Rural Kossuth Co./Cylinder area and graduated from Cylinder High School in 1940. She received her RN degree at St. Luke's Hospital in Sioux City, Iowa in 1943. She worked in various capacities as an RN up until and even after marrying her love, Ralph Hartung October 20, 1950. They eventually came to farm in Spirit Lake; four children, Monte, Scott, Kris and Chet also came to call that place home.
Mom loved Ralph, us, the farm, gardening, cooking, camping and a good argument, or so it seemed to us! She worried too much but…she'd been through a lot in life. We knew she loved much and despite many times in her life when it was hard, she continued to persevere. She held onto faith and didn't give up easily, ever. Although grandchildren came late in her life, she loved them so, Ross, Paige, Sean and Stephanie.
Pauline is survived by her children, Monte, his wife Janice of Sioux Falls, SD; Scott of Lake City, Iowa; Kris and her husband Jerry of Hampton, Iowa; Chet and his wife Kathy of Boise, Idaho; four grandchildren Ross and Paige Shafrath, Sean and Stephanie Hartung. She also is survived by a brother Bill and his wife Ina Mae; brother Jim and his wife Garnet and a sister Dora; brother in law Vernon Hartung and his wife Margie as well as many nieces and nephews for whom she shared much of her love and view points about life as she knew it! She was preceded in death by her husband, Ralph; parents William and Marie, brother Eugene, and sister Mercedes.
