Obituary of Iva L. Peterson

Iva L. Peterson, 92, died Friday, March 19, 2010, at Good Samaritan Society-Luther Manor, Sioux Falls, SD. Services will be held Thursday, March 25, 2010 at 10 AM in the Luther Manor Chapel in Sioux Falls. Graveside services will be conducted at 2:30 PM at Lakeview Cemetery in Spirit Lake, IA on March 25th. Iva Lucille Moritz was born to Hazel and George Moritz February 2, 1918, in rural Montgomery, IA. After attending country school, she attended Spirit Lake High School, where she graduated in 1935. On August 31, 1936, she married her high school sweetheart, Harold Peterson, in Spencer, IA. Together, they farmed their farm east of Spirit Lake. In 1974, they sold the farm and retired to Spirit Lake. For the first time, she worked away from their home. She greatly enjoyed working in the school lunch program for several years, followed with working for a friend in his café. Whatever she was doing, keeping an impeccably clean home came first. Her grandsons, their wives and her great-grandchildren were important to her. She loved attending their activities, whether in Sioux Falls or Colorado, and kept an active interest in whatever they were doing. She enjoyed playing games, especially Old Maid, with them. Music was always important to her. Whether it was dancing with Harold in their younger days or singing all the "golden oldies" or her favorite hymns, she enjoyed herself greatly. She was a jokester with a twinkle in her eye and a laugh that was contagious. Iva was a member of the United Methodist Church in Spirit Lake, IA. She enjoyed attending chapel and Bible Study in the nursing home. In 2002 Iva moved to the Good Samaritan Society Meadowstone Apartments where she resided for several years. In 2008, she moved to Good Samaritan Society Luther Manor in Sioux Falls. There she endeared herself to the other residents and especially the staff. Surviving her are her son and daughter-in-law, Gary and Beverly Peterson, Sioux Falls, SD; two grandsons and their wives, Todd and Jennifer Peterson, Kersey, CO and Trent and Lisa Peterson, Sioux Falls, SD; and 5 great-grandchildren; Christopher, Avondale, AZ, Aaron and Colin, Kersey, CO, and Cole and Lauryn Iva, Sioux Falls, SD. A nephew, Robert Peterson, Clear Lake, IA and a niece, Donna Young, Mesa, AZ also survive, as well as other relatives.
