Obituary of Sylvia Mildred Carpenter

Sylvia Mildred Wallace was born November 24, 1921 to George and Connie (Christofferson) Wallace Sr. on the family farm located between Milford and Terril. Sylvia went to school in Milford, graduating in 1940. On October 5, 1945 she was united in marriage to Ted Carpenter. They enjoyed 63 ½ years of life together. Their love was evident to everyone who knew them right up to the very end of her life. Sylvia lived in the Lakes area her entire life, as a homemaker and co-owner of S & A Rootbeer Stand, aka The Nutty Bar. Sylvia and her sister, Anna, worked the stand for sixteen years together, and later Ted and Sylvia ran the stand for an additional three years. They made nutty bars, rootbeer and many friends there. She leaves behind many friends and loved ones, especially at First Lutheran Church where she was a lifetime member. Her love for the Lord and for her church was very evident. She is survived by her husband, Ted; sons, Bill (Jackie) of Okoboji and Jim (Lisa) of Milford, and one daughter Nancy (Jeff) Gross of Sioux Falls, South Dakota. She leaves behind eight grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren who will really miss her. Sylvia is also survived by one brother, George and his wife, Betty, and one sister, Gloria and her husband, Don Lamb. She was preceded in death by her parents, George and Connie Wallace and her sister and brother-in-law Anna and Clifford Pike.
