Obituary of Leona Simington

A funeral service will be held Monday, March 24, 2014 at 10:30am at First Lutheran Church in West OKoboji. Burial will be at Lakeview Gardens. Visitation will be on Sunday, March 23rd after 3:00pm with the family present from 3:00-5:00pm at Turner Jenness Funeral Home in Milford. Leona Mildred Simington, daughter of Irene (Glasnipp) and Fred Kulow, was born January 4, 1935 in Emmetsburg, Iowa. She graduated from Ruthven High School in 1953. She was united in marriage to Charles Simington. Leona worked at Berkleys for thirty-six years before retiring on June 27, 1997. She was a member of the First Lutheran Church in West Okoboji and Lakes Auxiliary to the Veterans of Foreign Wars in Spirit Lake. She enjoyed baking, knitting, embroidery, bowling and refinishing furniture. Leona passed away March 19, 2014 at Keelson Harbour in Spirit Lake at seventy-nine years of age. She is survived by her children, Valerie (Greg) Mortensen, Vanessa (Ken) Potter and Craig (Kristina) Simington; grandchildren, Ryan (Carla) Mortensen and their children, Cade, Taylor and Tucker Mortensen, Chris Mortensen and his children, Allie and Caleb Mortensen, Blake (Andrea) Mortensen; Danielle (Jim) Bockman and their daughter, Madalynn Bockman, Ashley (Tyler) Sander and their son, Canon Sander, Samuel Simington. Leona was preceded in death by her daughter, Terri Simington Brooks; siblings, Arlin Kulow, Elroy Kulow, Bernice Weems, Anita Langfitt and two infant siblings; her dog, Murphy Brown.
