Obituary of Bob Rush

Bobby Joe Rush was born October 5, 1932 in Lake Park, Iowa, the son of Martin and Lela (Crooks) Rush. As a child, he attended the Methodist Church in Montgomery, Iowa. He attended country school until the 6th grade and completed his high school education in Lake Park, Iowa. For a short time, Bob attended ISU in Ames, Iowa before enlisting in the United States Army. On March 17, 1957, Bob was united in marriage to Mabel Margaret Bowden at the Presbyterian Church in Lake Park where he served as a Deacon and Elder for many years. To this union, three children were born, Marc Charles, Jeri Jo and David Grant. Bob retired in 1998 from over forty years of farming east of Lake Park. During this time, he served on the Elevator Board. After retirement, Bob and Mabel moved to Pelican Ridge for seven years. At this time they joined Good News Community Church. Bob worked at Okoboji View and was on the Team Wave to help beautify Arnolds Park. He was a long time member of Farm Bureau and a fifty-one year member of the American Legion. They returned to the Lake Park community in 2004. He was most proud of his fifty-one year marriage to his wife, Mabel, his three children and five grandchildren as well as his 500 hours in volunteer driving of the V.A. van. He greatly enjoyed farming in the spring and fall with Gary Johnson. He was patriotic and loved America. He also loved life and lived it fully to the glory of God. Bob passed away with all his children present on Thursday, October 30, 2008 at his home in Lake Park at seventy-six years of age. He is survived by his wife, Mabel of Lake Park; son, Marc (Cindy Hintz) and their children, Ryan and Graham, daughter, Jeri Jo (Ron Scheidt) and their children, Evan and Martin and son, David Grant (Carole Wireman) and their daughter, Laken. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Les, Wayne and Dean; sister, Lois; two grandchildren, Robert Paul and Margaret Maxine, children of son, David and his wife, Carole.
