Obituary of Robert Jay Miller

Robert Jay Miller was born on April 27, 1915 in Indianola, Iowa, the son of Dr. William Jay and Ivah Summy Miller. He was united in marriage to Emily Heinz Miller at the Fort Snelling Chapel in Minnesota. Robert received his degree in veterinary medicine from Iowa State. He was a Colonel in the Veterinary Corps serving as inspector of foods and animal origin. Robert was very dedicated to his military career as he served the United States Army for thirty-three years. After WWII, he was sent to the Netherlands to help re-establish the Dutch Dairy Industry. Robert was awarded the Legion of Merit with Oak Cluster in 1970. Robert lived in various places including, Illinois, Holland, Nebraska, Texas, Washington, Korea, California, Virginia and North Carolina before moving back to Iowa in 1998. He enjoyed photography, pottery, wood carving, painting, ceramics and gardening. He attended the Catholic Church. Robert passed away on May 30, 2008 at the Lakes Regional Healthcare in Spirit Lake, Iowa at ninety-three years of age. He is survived by his son, George Miller of Parkersburg, Iowa; daughters, Judi and her husband David Wilkinson of Raleigh, North Carolina and Jeanne and her husband Norman Boley of Spirit Lake, Iowa; seven grandchildren and fifteen great-grandchildren. Robert was preceded in death by his parents, son, Jerry Miller, grandson, Robert J. Miller and his wife, Emily.
