Obituary of Dolly Smith
A funeral service will be held Tuesday, April 1, 2014 at 10:30am at Turner Jenness Funeral Home in Milford. Burial will be at Fairview Cemetery in Terril. Visitation will be on Monday, March 31, 2014 after 3:00pm with the family present from 5:00-7:00pm at Turner Jenness Funeral Home in Milford. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established.
Dolly Smith, daughter of Allen and Ava Davis Anderson, was born May 17, 1931. She grew up on the family farm in the Terril-Milford area. She received her education from Terril Community School, graduating in 1949.
On August 28, 1949 Dolly was united in marriage to Leonard Smith at the Terril Methodist Church. Two children were born to this union, Ellen and Larry. They continued to farm the Smith family farm throughout their married years.
Dolly was a member of the Terril United Methodist Church and served in many capacities. She was active in the Milford Township Farm Boosters Club and Dickinson County Foster Parent Association. In her later years she worked at Time-Out Nursery and volunteered with the children's programing at the Spirit Lake Public Library as well as other sites where she touched the lives of many children.
Dolly also enjoyed baking, sewing, gardening and listening to country music. She had many beloved pets through the years. Her greatest joys were the times spent with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Dolly could be found at many of their activities throughout the years.
Dolly passed away on Saturday, March 29, 2014 at the Lakes Regional Hospital in Spirit Lake, Iowa at the age of 82. She was preceded in death by her husband, Leonard (1988) and her parents.
Left to cherish her memory are: her children Ellen and her husband Ron Williams of Spirit Lake and Larry and his wife Mona of rural Milford; grandchildren Brian (Kirstin) Williams of Scottsdale, AZ, Carrie Williams of Oakland, CA, Marcia (Shawn) Bibler of Terril, Scott (Erin) Smith of Des Moines and Kyle Smith of Ankeny; great grandchildren Kaylyn, Aliviah and Ryker Bibler and Aiden Smith; brother John Anderson of rural Milford; nieces and nephews, foster sons and daughters and many friends and relatives.
