Obituary of Deone Reeser
Services for Mrs. Deone Reeser, 91, of Hartley and formerly of Spirit Lake, will be 10:30 am Monday, October 29, 2012 at Turner Jenness Funeral Home in Spirit Lake.
Interment will be at Lakeview Cemetery in Spirit Lake
Visitation will begin after 3 pm Sunday, October 28, 2012 with the family present from 3-5 pm.
Deone H. Reeser was born June 28, 1921, the daughter of Charles L. and Harriett O. (Marlow) Hawk in Millerton, North Dakota. Deone was raised and educated in Spirit Lake, graduating from Spirit Lake High School in 1939.
Following high school, Deone worked for Arnold Cook at Cooks Hatchery until the beginning of WWII. During the war, she worked at the Nebraska Defense Corp. in Wahoo, Nebraska, and then at Capital Air Lines at Washington National Airport. Deone returned to the area in 1947 and began work at KICD Radio in Spencer, Iowa.
She was united in marriage to Gregory Reeser on November 15, 1951 in Spirit Lake. The couple made their home in Spirit Lake until 1956, when they moved to Columbia, Missouri where Deone worked for Stephens College and they owned and ran a restaurant. The family moved back to Spirit Lake in 1968, and she began working as the administrator for Hilltop Care Center, where she worked until 1979. During her later career, Deone owned and operated the Dutch Lunch Restaurant in Spirit Lake, and worked as a realtor for Weed Realty.
Volunteer work was a vital part of Deone's life. She worked as a volunteer at Lakes Regional Hospice, Spirit Lake Schools' SWAN program, RSVP, Lakes Art Center as well as the Grandparent program at Spirit Lake Community School. For her efforts, she was a recipient of the Governor's Volunteer Award in 2001.
Deone passed away Thursday, October 25, 2012 at Community Memorial Health Center in Hartley, Iowa, at ninety-one years of age.
She is survived by her daughter, Jacqueline Kramer and her husband Randy; granddaughter, Mallory Ann Renteria and her husband Andres; and her sister, Delta Hawk Runkle; several nephews, nieces and friends.
