Obituary of Robert Umscheid
Mass of Christian Burial for Robert Umscheid, 82, of Milford will be 10:30 am Friday, November 2, 2012 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Milford.
Visitation will begin after 4 pm on Thursday, November 1, 2012 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Milford. There will be a Knights of Columbus Rosary at 6:30 pm followed by a Parish Scripture Service.
Interment will be at Calvary Cemetery in Milford.
Mr. Umscheid passed away October 28, 2012 at the Milford Care Center.
Memorials in memory of Bob may be sent to Iowa Hospice or Milford Nursing Center.
Robert "Bob" Joseph Umscheid was born Feb 15, 1930 to Louis John and Florence (Wittrock) Umscheid in West Port Township of Iowa.
On November 18, 1951 Bob was united in marriage to Bessie Rae Bazemore in Windsor, North Carolina. They lived in Milford since 1952.
He served his country in the U.S. Navy from June 1948 to July 1952 during World War II and the Korean War.
Bob was a member of Saint Joseph Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus, Fourth Degree, American Legion Post #384 for fifty-one years and Dickinson County Veterans' Affairs for twenty-seven years.
Bob enjoyed farming. He also worked at Walnut Grove 4x4, Milford Elevator, Milford Municipal Utilities, ran the Milford Café and Piccadilly's, drove truck for Ruan and worked for Dickinson County Road Department as a supervisor.
Bob was a Milford/Okoboji Athletics Booster. He made a homemade grill on wheels and supported many community events cooking for them. He was a Volunteer Fireman for the Milford Fire Department and also a Volunteer for Veterans Affairs of Spirit Lake as a driver of the DAV van from October 15, 1998 to May, 2011, logging 1,107 hours. He was a Commissioner for the Dickinson County Commission of Veteran Affairs since April of 1985.
Bob passed away Sunday, October 28, 2012 at the Milford Nursing Center at eighty-two years of age.
Left to cherish his memory are his children, Debbie (Kelly) Blunt from Oskaloosa, Iowa, Mick (Bonnie) Umscheid from Milford, Iowa, Ed (Susan) Umscheid from Spencer, Iowa, Diane Holmen from Waterloo, Illinois, Donna (fiancée, Ryan) Clark from Milford, Iowa, Dan (Cindy) Umscheid from Waterloo, Illinois; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren; brothers, James (Beulah) Umscheid from Greenville, Iowa, Francis "Fritz" (Jeanette) Umscheid from Montana, Donald (Leslie) from Kenosha, Wisconsin; sisters, Margie Gustoff of Spencer, Iowa, Juanita Bueltel from Superior, Iowa.
Bob was preceded in death by wife of 60 years, Bessie Rae, infant daughter, Denise; infant son, Bobby Joe, Great-Granddaughter, Brooke Duval; his parents and sister Marietta and brother Richard.
