Obituary of Arlene Elizabeth Berning

A funeral service will be held Saturday, December 22, 2012 at 10:30am at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Milford. Visitation will be Friday, December 21st after 3:00pm with the family present from 5:00-7:00pm at Turner Jenness Funeral Home in Milford. There will be a Rosary Service at 6:30pm followed by a Scripture Service at the funeral home. Arlene Elizabeth Berning, daughter of Fred and Clara (Uhlenkamp) Sporrer, was born August 23, 1921 in Templeton, Iowa. The family moved to Milford, Iowa in 1923 where she attended St. Joseph Catholic School through the tenth grade and completed her schooling at Milford High School, graduating in 1940. On January 20, 1942, Arlene was united in marriage to Carl Berning in Milford, Iowa. She worked at several insurance agencies in Milford. Arlene was a member of the Rosary Altar Society and Catholic Daughters of America. She participated in bowling league, was an avid reader and loved to socialize with family and friends. She was very devoted to her many nieces and nephews. Arlene passed away December 18, 2012 at the Milford Care Center at ninety-one years of age. She is survived by her sisters, Dolores Fitzpatrick and Marie Wunder; brothers, Earl (Lois) Sporrer and Jerry (Shirley) Sporrer; sister-in-law, Beverly Sporrer and many nieces and nephews. Arlene was preceded in death by her husband, Carl, in 2007; her parents, Fred and Clara Sporrer and one brother, Floyd Sporrer.
