Obituary of Marvin Hyatt

A private family service was held for Marvin Hyatt at Turner Jenness Funeral Home in Milford. Mr. Hyatt passed away Wednesday, December 26, 2012 at Avera McKennan Hospital in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. Marvin Duane Hyatt was born in Council Bluffs, Iowa on June 18, 1933 to Edgar H. Hyatt and Icie E. Hyatt. He had one sister, Marjorie Jean, who was five years older. As a young boy, he spent many summers at Lake Okoboji which became his dream. He graduated from Abraham Lincoln High School and later attended Iowa Western Community College majoring in mechanics. He served in the United States Air Force from 1953 to 1957 as a jet mechanic on the B-47 Strategic Bomber. He spent his enlistment in Arizona and Texas with two tours to England. After serving in the Air Force, he returned to his employment with the Union Pacific Railroad for thirty-eight years, giving his spare time to driving the school bus for Lewis Central School. Marv married his high school sweetheart, Patricia (Pat) on June 6, 1953. They were blessed with two children, daughter, Kathleen, and son, Michael, four grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren, that are the stars in his eyes. Marv retired in 1989 and moved to Minnesota, bought a house on Big Stone Lake. He enjoyed the lake for eighteen years, spending the winters in South Texas and the summers at the lake. In 2007 he moved to the love of his dreams, Lake Okoboji Village in Milford, Iowa. His love was his family and the lakes…Okoboji, Minnesota and Canada. Marv is survived by his wife, Patricia; son, Michael (Sherry) Hyatt; daughter, Kathleen (Ron) Kloewer; grandsons, Jesse (Dione) Hyatt, Travis (Krista) Hyatt; granddaughters, Sarah (Morgan) Pett, Laura (Dave) Whitney; and seven great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Marge Kramer.
