Obituary of Betty Voss

Betty Lou Voss, daughter of Ben Roy Smith and Olive Fern Harbach, was born July 4, 1929 in Clay County, Iowa. She graduated from high school in Gillett Grove. On February 25, 1966, Betty was united in marriage to Harlan Hartwig Voss. She was a devoted farmers wife for many years while they lived on the farm in Sioux Valley. She later moved to her home in Spirit Lake. Betty attended the Presbyterian Church and was a member of the garden club, bible study and weight watchers. Betty loved gardening, cooking, baking and sewing (she used to sew all of the Easter outfits). She loved her pets, snowmobiling with Harlan and writing and receiving letters. She enjoyed playing cards and games with all of her nieces and nephews. Betty passed away December 30, 2012 at her home in Spirit Lake, Iowa at eighty-three years of age. She is survived by her brother, James Smith of Clarksville and his family; five sisters-in-law, Joyce (Colvin Smith) Grim of Spirit Lake, Arlene (Kruse) Smith of Spirit Lake, Betty Jean (Biery) Smith of Spirit Lake, LaVon (Bjorklund) Groth of Fostoria, Iowa and Leona (Kruse) Smith of Adel, Iowa; several loved ones throughout the world and her very special caregiver, friend, confident and great-nephew, Grant Hawn. She was preceded in death by her husband, Harlan; nine brothers and sisters and most recently her nephew, Brad Simpson.
