Obituary of Mary Single
Mass of Christian Burial for Mary Single, 91, of Spirit Lake will be 10:30 am Monday, May 12, 2014 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Spirit Lake.
Interment will be at St. Margaret's Cemetery in Spirit Lake.
Mary Alice Single was born February 18, 1923, the daughter of Richard and Rose (Long) Naber, in Milford, Iowa. Mary was raised and educated near Sioux Valley, Minnesota. Following graduating high school, Mary attended beauty school in Sioux Falls, SD.
Mary was united to George Single on September 27, 1943 in Salinas, Kansas. The couple made their home in Gary, Indiana, Ft. Dodge, Iowa, Mason City, Iowa and Nebraska City, Nebraska before moving to Spirit Lake in 1983. Mary worked as a hairdresser and a homemaker.
Mary was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Spirit Lake, where she was active in Circle. She was also active as a volunteer at the Catholic Charities Thrift Store. Mary was a talented seamstress and flower gardener. She was a Meals-On-Wheels volunteer and enjoyed craft projects.
Mary passed away Thursday, May 8, 2014, at Hilltop Care Center, where she had resided for the past five years, at ninety-one years of age.
She is survived by her children, George Richard Single, Mary (Single) Sweeney and Debra (Single) Jonas. Also surviving are seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her husband, George, her parents and siblings.
