Obituary of Lyle Westergard
Lyle John Westergard was born in Graettinger, Iowa on July 20, 1937 to John and Venetta (Hansen) Westergard. He was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith.
Lyle grew up on the family farm north of Lost Island where he learned to work hard.
In high school Lyle was active in FFA and played football. He graduated in 1956 and was then drafted into the Army. He served a tour in Germany. Upon discharge he started his own farming business near Hartley until he bought the present day farm near Milford.
On July 29, 1993 Lyle married Ardith Fern Hage. Lyle and Ardie continued the farming operation until his death.
Lyle was a story teller who had a few stories he would repeat often. He loved to visit with people. He was fair, honest and loved his farming operation. Lyle and Ardie have spent their time together going to auctions and attending family events.
Lyle passed away March 17, 2013 at Avera McKennan Hospital in Sioux Falls, South Dakota at seventy-five years of age.
He is survived by his wife, Ardie; stepdaughters, Monette (Jim) Berkevich, Ranell (Brett) Williams; stepson, Keven (Mary) Hage. Lyle so much enjoyed being grandpa to ten grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren. He is also survived by brothers Donald (Delores) Westergard and Richard (Janet) Westergard; sisters Margaret Dalen, Edna (Franklin) Mett, Shirley Anderson and Carol Rinders; and many nieces and nephews.
Lyle was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Elaine Henningsen, Doris Patton, Marlys Kuehl and Helen Sanders.
