Obituary of Tom Opheim

A funeral service for Tom Opheim, age 69, of Milford and formerly of Spirit Lake, will be held at 3 pm, Thursday, February 27, 2020, at Turner Jenness Funeral Home in Spirit Lake, Iowa. Visitation will begin at 2 pm on Thursday until the time of the service. Thomas Eugene Opheim, the son of Lyle and Nancy (Larson) Opheim, was born October 2, 1950 in Fort Dodge, Iowa. Tom was united in marriage to La Ronna (Roni) Vick. He began work at Stoller Fisheries loading fish on the dock and continued to work there for over forty years. Through hard work and determination, Tom retired in 2019 as president of the company. He was an avid sports fan and loved spending time with his family. He was loyal, honest and dedicated to everything he approached in life. Tom passed away Monday, February 24, 2020, at Daugherty House in Sioux Falls, South Dakota at the age of sixty-nine. Tom is survived by his wife, Roni Opheim; children, Tim (Anna) Opheim, Brett (Jess) Opheim and Ashley Opheim; step-daughter, Stephanie Gentry; siblings, Steve (Becky) Opheim, Karen Lewis, Mark (Katie) Opheim and Angie (Kirk) Baird. He is also survived by his nine grandchildren. Tom was preceded in death by his parents, Lyle and Nancy Opheim; sister, Kathryn (Opheim) Spurgen and brother, Gary L. Opheim.
