Obituary of Evelyn Larsen
A funeral service will be held Wednesday, June 4, 2014 at 10:30am at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Spirit Lake. Burial will be at Spirit Lake Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be on Tuesday, June 3rd from 5:00-7:00pm at Turner Jenness Funeral Home in Spirit Lake.
Evelyn Mae Shultz Larsen, the daughter of Harley Dewitt Schulz and Minnie Olina Petersen Schultz, was born March 9, 1924 in Jackson Minnesota. Her family moved to Dickinson county when Evelyn was five years old and she later graduated from Spirit Lake High School with the class of 1943. Evelyn was confirmed and became a member of the Immanuel Lutheran Church on May 29, 1940.
On July 6, 1943, Evelyn was united in marriage to Ivan E. Larsen in Spirit Lake. Evelyn was a medication aide at the Dickinson County Home for twenty years before retiring on March 8, 1986. She loved helping and working with people.
Evelyn was a member of the Immanuel Lutheran Ladies Circle and Happy Hour Club. She liked to play cards with friends, "the Elderberrys" at the Senior Citizens Center and attend the summer theatre. She enjoyed going out for coffee with the coffee club, eat out with friends and especially travel with her friends and family. Her favorite enjoyment was when her daughters and their families came to visit.
On May 30, 2014, Evelyn passed away at Hilltop Care Center in Spirit Lake at ninety years of age.
She is survived by her daughters, Patrica A. Wallerich (Mare) of Kalaheo, Hawaii and Cindy S. Handy (William) of Machesney Park, Illinois; granddaughters, Kristin Hayes (Andy) of Chandler, Arizona and Miranda Hanby of Machesney Park, Illinois; great-grandson, Colton Hayes and great-granddaughter, Kennedy Hayes.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Ivan in 1993; daughter, Linda Hagedorn in 1993, parents, Harley in 1998 and Minnie in 1993; grandson, Paul Hagedorn in 1988.
