Obituary of Ross W. Jahn

A funeral service will be held Wednesday, June 18, 2014 at 4:00pm at Turner Jenness Funeral Home in Spirit Lake. Visitation will begin at 3:00 on Wednesday at the funeral home. Mr. Jahn, age 78, of Spirit Lake, passed away June 13, 2014 at Hilltop Care Center. Ross William (aka "Jeep") Jahn, the son of Johnny Jahn and Bionda Reimers, was born January 29, 1936 in Estherville, Iowa. He received his Bachelor of Arts Degree at Buena Vista University. Ross served his country in the United States Marines until he was honorably discharged in 1957. On November 25, 1960, Ross was united in marriage to Judy Jo Jergensen in Spirit Lake. The family lived on Guam, Astoria, OR, Rogers City, MI and Marshall, MN before moving to Spirit Lake in 1972. He worked as an insurance claims adjuster as well as in education. Throughout his life, Ross enjoyed trapshooting, hunting and camping. He was a member of the United Methodist Church, NRA, Iowa State Trapshooting Assoc. and Ducks Unlimited. Ross passed away June 13, 2014 at Hilltop Care Center at seventy-eight years of age. He is survived by his sons, Jeffrey L. Jahn of Westerville, Ohio and wife Kelly, granddaughter Kaitlin (25) and grandson Derek (21); and Christopher J. Jahn and wife Melinda Kurth of Goldfield, Iowa; and sisters-in-law Delores Jahn and Pat Andersen, both of Spirit Lake. Ross was preceded in death by his wife, Judy; parents, Johnny and Bionda; sister, Betty Martin and brother, J. Russell Jahn.
