Obituary of Gary Green

A Celebration of Life will be held for Gary Green, of Milford, Iowa and formally of Boyden, Iowa, on June 26, 2021 at 10:30 am at the Faith Community Church in Milford. Luncheon to follow at the Milford Community Center.

Gary Richard Green, the son of Richard (Tuffy) Green and Effie Korthals Green was born on May 2, 1943 in Hull, IA.  He was raised on a farm north of Boyden, IA. and graduated from Sheldon High school in 1961.

Gary married Elaine VandeGarde, the love of his life on June 4, 1963 at the First Reformed Church in Boyden, IA.

Gary spent all his farming years raising, showing and feeding cattle.  When looking for a place to support his love for raising cattle he met with Dr. Buchanan who owned such a place west of Milford, IA.  After renting for several years, Gary and Elaine purchased the farm in 1977 where he lived until his passing.

Gary was secretary for the NW IA. Polled Hereford Association for several years and was the first Polled Hereford breeder to receive Grand Champion bull at the Iowa State Fair.

Gary’s favorite pastime was fishing for walleye which was second only to bragging about his family and spending time with them.  Any and everyone who met or knew Gary got to view a picture or two on his phone.

Gary was a member of the Faith Community Church in Milford during the 55 years of living in the community.

Gary was proceeded in death by his parents and parents’ in-law; brothers in-law, Vern Kooiker & Harvy Moret; sister in-law, Murial Kooiker and many dear friends.

Left to cherish his memory are Elaine, his wife for 57 years; sons Daniel (Dawn) Green of Baytown, TX., Darin (Julie) Green of Boyden, IA., David (Sharee) Green of Milford, IA.; grandchildren Amber (Jason) Christensen of Okoboji, IA., Dillon (Kaitlyn) Green of Boyden, IA., Kendal & Kylan Green of Milford, IA. and great grandchildren Logan, Camden, Hudson & Sawyer;  Sisters-in-law Max Moret of Sheldon, IA., Sheryl Vande Garde of Colorado Springs, CO.; brother in-law Duane (Vicki) Vande Garde of Sibley, IA.; aunt Lillian Green of Boyden, IA., several nieces, nephews and cousins as well as many close friends.

In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to the Gary Green Memorial Fund.
