Obituary of Mary Hanson

Funeral Service for Mary Hanson, age 88, of Spirit Lake, will be held on Saturday, July 24, 2021 at 11:00 a.m. at the Turner Jenness Funeral Home in Spirit Lake. Interment will be in Lakeview Cemetery in Spirit Lake.

Visitation will take place on Friday, July 23, 2021 from 5:00-7:00 p.m. at the Turner Jenness Funeral Home in Spirit Lake. 

Mary Ann Hanson, the daughter of Ben and Margaret “Eva” (Ankeney) Reed, was born on April 24, 1933, in Spirit Lake, Iowa.

On September 25, 1949, Mary was united in marriage to Donald “Pete” LeWayne Hanson in Jackson, Minnesota. The couple lived and raised their family in Spirit Lake, Iowa where Mary worked as a sewer for twenty years. Mary enjoyed spending time with her family and sewing. 

Mary passed on Wednesday, July 21, 2021, at the Good Samaritan Society in Estherville.

Those left to cherish her memory include children, Bonnie (Merle) Wallace, Dory (James) Schatz, Robert (Tammie) Hanson, Michael Hanson (companion, Dawn Edwards), Donna (Paul) Dyslin, Daniel (Linda) Hanson and Jeffery Hanson; grandchildren, Julie (Wallace) and Umeme Battle, Tom (Victoria) Wallace, David (Sandra) Wallace, John Paul Wallace, John Boetel and Andrea Easter, Katy (Mears) and Jason Griffin, Daniel Mears, Chad (Allison) Hanson, Maggie Dyslin, Travis Dyslin (companion,  Octavia Jarnot), Heather (Stephen) Larson and Jeffery (Belicia) Hanson; great-grandchildren, Luke Eubanks, William Wallace, Carter Wallace, Olivia Wallace, Tyler Hanson, Breanna Hanson, Aria Smith, and Jamie Dyslin; extended family and friends. 

Mary was preceded in death by her husband, parents, and siblings: Margaret White, Emma Reed, Ben Reed, Bill Reed, and Ken Reed.
