Obituary of Barb Hanson

Funeral services for Barb Hanson, age 86, of Spirit Lake, will be held on Friday, August 20, 2021 at 10:30 a.m. at the Turner Jenness Funeral Home in Spirit Lake. Interment will be in the Lakeview Cemetery in Spirit Lake.

Visitation will take place on Thursday, August 19, 2021 from 5:00-7:00 p.m. at the Turner Jenness Funeral Home in Spirit Lake. 

Barbara Jean Hanson, the daughter of Homer and Mary (Kelly) Wheeler, was born on June 23, 1935, in Milford, Iowa.

Barb grew up in the Milford area and attended Milford High School where she later graduated from.

On October 2, 1954, Barb was united in marriage to Wilbur G. Hanson in Jackson, Minnesota. The couple had three children: Bruce, Bill, and Nancy.

Throughout her life, Barb was a farmwife. She was also a member of the VFW Ladies Auxiliary.

In her free time, Barb enjoyed gardening, reading, and spending time with her family. Her family was her pride and joy.

Barb passed away on Tuesday, August 17, 2021 at Lakes Regional Healthcare in Spirit Lake.

Those left to cherish her memory include her children: Bruce (Debra) Hanson, Bill Hanson, and Nancy (Greg) Michelson; grandchildren: Allison (Jake) Beggs, Katie (Nick) Diehl, Sarah Hanson; great-grandchildren: Gavin Beggs, Jackson Diehl, Sophia Diehl; extended family and friends.

Barb was preceded in death by her husband, Wilbur; parents, Homer and Mary; brother, Don Wheeler; and sister, Pat Arp.
