Obituary of LeeAnna (Dean) Nielsen
A Mass of Christian Burial for LeeAnna (Dean) Nielsen, 93, of Spirit Lake will be held at 10:30 am, Friday, October 8, 2021, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Spirit Lake. Interment will be at St. Margarets Cemetery in Spirit Lake. Visitation will begin at 3 pm, Thursday, October 7, 2021, with the family present from 5 - 7 pm, at Turner Jenness Funeral Home in Spirit Lake.

LeeAnna Emma Dean Nielsen, the daughter of Herman and Cecelia (Bruns) Schumacher, was born August 10, 1928 in Hartington, Nebraska. She graduated from high school in 1946.
On August 10, 1946, LeeAnna was married to Earl Dean. She lived in various places including Arizona, California and Nebraska before moving to Iowa in 1960. After Earl passed away, LeeAnna married Harry Nielsen on June 17, 1989.
LeeAnna worked as the head baker at the Spirit Lake High School and enjoyed sewing, crafts and gardening. She attended St. Mary’s Catholic Church and was a member of the VFW.
LeeAnna passed away October 3, 2021 at the Pearl Valley Rehab and Nursing Center in Lake Park, Iowa at ninety-three years of age.
She is survived by her children, Dennis (Esterlista) Dean of Spirit Lake, Roxanne (Pete) Sidles of Spirit Lake, Jacki (Scott) Marderness of Milford, Jolene (Scott) Egertson of Spirit Lake, Lisa Hurd of Pensacola, Florida and Greg (Kara) Dean of Spirit Lake; step-children, Pat Jensen of Everly, Iowa, Marinus Nielsen of Orient, Iowa, Paulette Madson of Harlan, Iowa, Sherm Nielsen of Royal, Iowa and Dan Nielsen of Evans, Georgia; brother, Don Schumacher of California; sister, Karen Blake of Florida; grandchildren, Larry and Mindy Dean and family, Fernando Alcano and family, Armenia Alcano and family, Curtis and Nancy Mills, Tony and Betty Mills and family, Tami and Ted Woodroof and family, Dawn and Kevin Kuhlman and family, Troy Sidles and family, Justin Sidles and family, Kenny Branstner and family, Derrick Branstner and family, Chelsey and Sonny Van Lenning and family, Ron and Robin Carter and family, Jeremy Egerston, Stephanie and Landon Evans and family, Joshua and Mary Egertson and family, Jennifer and Ryan Kerr and family, Amanda and Tyler Harskamp and family, Dylan Eddy, Amber Dean and family, Tyler Dean and family; LeeAnna also has thirty-eight great-grandchildren and nineteen great-great-grandchildren.
LeeAnna was preceded in death by her parents, Herman and Cecelia Schumacher; first husband, Earl Dean; second husband, Harry Nielsen; sister and brother-in-law, Darlene and Jerry Godbold; daughter and son-in-law, Patti and Al Bruhns; daughter and son-in-law, Barb and Donald Mills, Jr.; daughter-in-law, Anita Dean; grandson, Jon Mills; great-granddaughter, Gracee Kerr.
