Obituary of Spencer Smith

A Celebration of Life visitation for Spencer Smith, 33, of Arnolds Park and formerly of Missouri Valley, Iowa, will be held Friday, June 23, 2023, from 5-8 pm, at Rand Community Center in Missouri Valley.

Spencer James Smith was born on September 20, 1989, in Council Bluffs, Iowa, the son of Joe and Amy (Baird) Smith. Spencer was raised and educated in Missouri Valley, Iowa, where he graduated from Missouri Valley High School.

After high school, Spencer worked various jobs as a carpenter and mechanic. He had a passion for music and was an accomplished drummer. He also had an interest in art and building models, as well as a love for history, particularly WWII history. Spencer was known for his skills as a mechanic and carpenter, and he was always willing to help others. He enjoyed spending time outdoors and had a fondness for dogs. His great sense of humor, infectious laugh, and smile were well-known traits.

Spencer is survived by his parents, Joe and Amy Smith; his sister, Hallie Smith; his grandparents, Ed and Sherry LaMere; and several aunts, uncles, and their spouses: Perry and Kris Smith, Pat and Connie Smith, Laura and Brian Gumm, Molly and Ryan Haggerty, Sarah and Sheldon Sides, and Andy LaMere.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Glen Smith and Jean Barrett.
