Obituary of Charles Ross
A Memorial Service for Charles Ross, Sr., age 86, of Webb will be held on Monday, November 13, 2023 at 5:30pm at The Church of Latter Day Saints in Spencer.
Charles Herbert Ross, Sr., born on December 25, 1936, in Webb, Iowa, to Herbert and Anna (Parr) Ross, passed away on November 6, 2023, at the VA Hospital in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. He was 86 years of age.
Charles attended public school through the 8th grade, later earning his GED. He enlisted in the United States Army in November 1954, and dedicated himself to the Army until his honorable discharge on January 31, 1958, achieving the rank of Private First Class (PFC).
On January 14, 1957, Charles married Dorothy Mae Leavitt, in Pioche, Nevada. Together, they embarked on a journey filled with love and shared experiences until her passing in 2020. Charles was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.
Charles was a man of diverse talents, known as a painter and a genuine jack of all trades. His interests ranged from auto mechanics to farming and he made significant contributions to the food service industry. Charles also found joy in racing stock cars in Las Vegas, where he proudly won several trophies.
Throughout his life, Charles demonstrated his commitment to the community. He served as a Boy Scout leader in Las Vegas and was an active member of the Culinary Union. His dedication to excellence in the tourism industry was recognized through awards from the Las Vegas Love Visitors Program for Outstanding Services.
Charles found pleasure in the simple joys of life, including reading, cooking, and savoring great foods. His legacy lives on through the cherished memories he created with family and friends.
Charles Herbert Ross, Sr. is survived by his children, Licia Christensen, Jennie Ross-Mattox (Bobby), Jerry Ross (Darla) and Deianne Ogline (Ron); daughter-in-law, Amy Strait. He was blessed with numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. Charles is also survived by his siblings, Jerry Ross (Pam), Marilyn Newberry, David Ross (Barbara), Dennis Ross (Barbara) and Sara Skipper.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Dorothy Ross; daughter, Rochelle Blum; son, Charles Ross II; siblings, Patricia Smith (C.J.), Rebecca Johnson (Mike) and Baby Joy; as well as his parents, Herbert and Anna Ross. Charles is also preceded in death by son-in-law, Kim Christensen; and brothers-in-law Charles Newberry and Gene Skipper.
In honoring Charles Herbert Ross, Sr., we remember a loving husband, father, grandfather and friend who left an impact on the lives he touched. May he rest in peace, surrounded by the love and memories he created throughout his remarkable journey.
