Obituary of Mary Buckley

A funeral service for Mary Jane Buckley, 86, of Johnston and formerly of Spirit Lake, will be held Friday, January 26, 2024 at 12:00 noon at Turner Jenness Funeral Home in Spirit Lake. Burial will be at St. Margaret Cemetery in Spirit Lake. A visitation for Mary will begin at 11:00AM on Friday at Turner Jenness Funeral Home.

Mary Jane Buckley, born on April 23, 1937, in LeMars, Iowa, peacefully passed away on January 12, 2024, at Taylor House in Des Moines, Iowa. She was the beloved daughter of Arthur and Marguerite (Britt) Allison.

On August 27, 1957, Mary was united in marriage to Daniel Buckley. Together, they made their home in LeMars until 1988, when they relocated to Spirit Lake following Dan's retirement. In the later years of her life, Mary moved to Johnston, Iowa.

Mary was a devoted member of the Catholic Church. She enjoyed playing bridge, golfing and especially her time fishing alongside her husband, Dan.

Left to cherish her memory are her children, Jim Buckley (Linda Johnson), Mike Buckley (Jami Blum) and Maria McMahon (Bob); grandchildren, Ian, Colin (fiancé, Makenzie Rowe), Emma, Joe (Becca), Sam, Ted, Katie (Jack), Chloe, Jack and Kelli. She is also survived by her siblings, Avila McCoy (Ron), Rosalie Tentinger (Mark) and Glenda Meis.

Mary was preceded in death by her parents, Arthur and Marguerite Allison; her husband, Dan, in 1997; her son, Fred, in 2019; sisters, Arlene Erdmann, Patricia (Fred) Wiebersch, Sharon Allison and infant brother, Dennis Allison.
