Obituary of David Ackermann
A Funeral Service for David Ackermann, age 93, of Lakefield will be held on Monday, January 22, 2024 at 11:00am at the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Lakefield. Interment will be at Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery. Visitation will take place prior to the service from 10:00-11:00am at the church in Lakefield. The family requests that memorials be given to the Immanuel Lutheran School Window & Furnace Project (604 Bush St Lakefield, MN 56150) and to the Lutheran Hour (660 Mason Ridge Center Drive St. Louis, MO 63141).
David John Ackermann was born January 17th, 1931, on the family farm in Rost Township, Jackson County, Lakefield, Minnesota to Harm and Anna (Kazemba) Ackermann. He was baptized January 18th, 1931. He grew up in the Lakefield area, attending Immanuel Lutheran School and graduated from Lakefield High School in 1948. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War.
David married Ruby Gusta Kratzke on January 27th, 1954, at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Rushmore, Minnesota. The Ackermanns farmed near Lakefield retiring in 1996.
David was very active at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Lakefield, where he served on the Board of Elders, taught Sunday School and Junior Bible Class. He sang in the church choir and served on several other boards and committees at the church through the years also.
David also served on the Board of Directors of the Farmers Coop Elevator in Lakefield for 27 years and the Advisory Committee of the St. Paul Bank for Cooperatives. In the community, David had been a member of the Jackson County Extension Committee, the Board of Directors of the Lakefield Hospital, and the Board of Directors of Colonial Manor Nursing Home.
One of David’s greatest joys in life was watching their sons, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren as they grew and being involved in their activities. David was thankful that he, their sons, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren (four generations) all received a Christian education at Immanuel Lutheran School.
David was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, who thoroughly enjoyed their family gatherings.
David passed away on January 17, 2024, at Accura Healthcare in Spirit Lake.
David is survived by his wife, Ruby Ackermann; sons, James (Jeanine) Ackermann and Daniel (Kelly) Ackermann; seven grandchildren: Jacob (Melissa) Ackermann of Lakefield; Jeremiah (Karly) Ackermann of Brookings, SD; Gregory (Racheal) Ackermann of Lakefield; Jared Ackermann of Lakefield; Amanda (Dustin) Voss of Lakefield; Matthew (Alyssa) Ackermann of Lakefield; and Jesse Ackermann of Lakefield; thirteen great-grandchildren: Alivia Ackermann, Abigail Ackermann, Cade Voss, David Ackermann, Aaron Ackermann, Benjamin Ackermann, Connor Voss, Addison Ackermann, Eleanor Ackermann, Hannah Ackermann, Carter Ackermann, August Voss, and Caleb Ackermann along with several nieces and nephews.
David was preceded in death by his parents and sisters, Hilda (Robert) Rickert and Mildred (Rev. Norman) Schramm.
