Donald Eugene Sarvie, born on September 26, 1934, in Ponsford, Minnesota, was the son of Wilfred and Dorthy (Schott) Sarvie. His early education was at a country school, and he graduated from Frazee High School. On November 19, 1957, Donald enlisted in the United States Army, serving his country with honor until November 18, 1959. His dedicated service earned him the Good Conduct Medal and the rank of Specialist. Following his honorable discharge, Don worked in window and siding installation for Nu Sash before embarking on a lengthy career as a heavy equipment operator for the City of Okoboji.

On August 18, 1963, Don married Charlotte Rae O’Farrell in Arnolds Park, and the couple established their home in Okoboji. In his leisure time, Don found joy in birdwatching and woodworking. His passion for birdwatching influenced many family trips, and his impeccable woodworking skills resulted in a variety of custom-made items, from bulldozers to cradles. Don's craftsmanship extended to numerous birdfeeders and birdhouses throughout the years. Beyond his hobbies, he cherished moments with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, particularly during family trips to Florida with Charlotte and her sister.

Don passed away on January 28, 2024, at the age of 89.
