Obituary of Don VonEhwegen

A funeral service for Don VonEhwegen, age 92 of Terril, will be held Saturday, June 1, 2024 at 10:30 AM at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Terril. Burial will be at Fairview Cemetery. A visitation for Don will be held Friday, May 31st from 5:00-7:00 PM at Turner Jenness Funeral Home in Milford.

Donald Eugene VonEhwegen was born at home on March 22, 1932 in Sac County to Reinhardt and Bessie (Bogue) VonEhwegen. Don passed away on May 28th 2024 at Lakeside Lutheran Nursing Home in Emmetsburg, Iowa at the age of 92.

Don spent his childhood years in Nemaha, Iowa and moved to Terril in 1950 and graduated from Terril High School in 1951.  While attending Terril schools he met his future wife, Glenda Mohr.

Don then entered the Army October 9th 1952 and served in the Korean War.  He was discharged from active duty on July 8th 1954.  He continued to serve our country in the Armed Reserves until his honorable discharge on September 30th 1960.

On September 19th 1954 he married Glenda Mohr.  To this union four children were born.  The couple farmed together and Don sold Dekalb Seeds beginning in 1976.  In 1993 the couple moved into town. Don and Glenda have been married 69 and a half years.

Don served on numerous boards in Dickinson County, was an active member of the American Legion and a devoted member of the Immanuel Lutheran Church both of Terril.

Don is survived by his wife Glenda,Terril and his children Anita (Mike) Mayou, Lake Park, Craig (Sharon) VonEhwegen, Dickens, Deb (Craig) Lockey, Milford and Robert VonEhwegen, Terril.  Grandchildren David Mayou, Matthew (Becca) Mayou, Taylor and Andrew VonEhwegen, Ashley (Johnny) Petievich, Melissa Lockey, Kort and Ellie VonEhwegen. Three Great-Grandchildren Emmet and Kal Mayou and Lydia VonEhwegen. His brother Jerry VonEhwegen and numerous other relatives and friends. 

He was preceded in death by his parents Reinhardt and Bessie VonEhwegen, his father and mother-in-law Albert and Esther Mohr, brothers Duane VonEhwegen and Bernard VonEhwegen, sister-in-law Carolyn VonEhwegen and infant nephew Rodney VonEhwegen.
