Obituary of Anita Margaret Bockman
A funeral service for Anita Bockman, age 90, of Spirit Lake, will be held Monday, February 2, 2015 at 11:00am at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Spirit Lake. Burial will be at Okoboji Cemetery. Visitation will begin one hour prior to the service at the church.
Anita Margaret (Benit) Bockman was born to Carsten and Gaza Benit on February 22, 1924 in Miami, Florida.
Anita graduated from Arnolds Park High School. In her early 20's, she was employed for two years in Washington DC, as a secretary/typist at the Pentagon.
Upon her return to Arnolds Park, she spent several years employed as a secretary for a Spirit Lake Law Firm. Following that, she was employed at Dickinson County Savings Bank. Later, she worked for her brother, Eldo Benit, in the Benit Amusement Park.
On September 26, 1970, Anita was united in marriage to Irving John Bockman. They purchased a lot in the Okoboji Harbor and were one of the first people to build a home there. They took many trips and enjoyed traveling together. She and Irving lived a blessed life and were members of Immanuel Lutheran Church of Spirit Lake.
After her marriage, she became a certified English Braille Transcriber for the Lutheran Library for the blind. She spent twenty plus years brailing Sunday School lessons, first on a Perkins Brailler and the last ten years on the computer. In later years, she served as a volunteer at the gift shop at Lakes Regional Healthcare.
Anita passed away January 29, 2015 at Hilltop Care Center in Spirit Lake, at ninety years of age.
She is survived by many nieces and nephews, including Gordon (Bette) Benit, Brad (Marcia) Benit and Pat Benit.
She was preceded in death by her brothers, Lou, Eldo, Elmer and Herbert; sisters, Minnie and Linda.
