Patrick was my first and best friend when I moved to Camarillo from Oxnard. We attended Los Nogales school together in the fifth grade and stayed in touch when the new school, Las Colinas, opened across town near the O'Neal's house in Mission Oaks. I attended my first and only Navy Airshow with Patrick and his dad at Pt. Mugu. I shared in his excitement when the local Camarillo newspaper featured his mom in a news story about her many African Violets.
I ended up being the wild kid and Patrick was the studious one. While we went our own ways and did our own things, I always respected Patrick for his kindness, patience, humor, and faith. I felt proud for him when he graduated as Salutatorian at Camarillo High, and when he got accepted to UC San Diego straight out of school. He was always working hard to excel. My mother still talks about what a great kid he was.
When I heard through friends that he had become a Reverend, I felt good that he had found his true calling--helping people and spreading kindness, goodness, and light. A few years ago I reached out to him by email with some questions about life and God and he responded at length with wisdom and understanding.
I am very sorry to learn of his passing.

Jennifer, I hurt for you and your family at Patrick's passing.
He is a kind, gentle, enjoyable, pleasant, and engaging man of God. (I use the present tense to describe him, because, even though he is not with us anymore, he is with the Lord, and someday we shall see him again).
As I consider Patrick, I find it interesting how our lives seemed to intersect.
I met Patrick, and you, at seminary.
My first call was to the Bay Area (Fremont, CA) in 1996. Patrick's first call was in the San Francisco area a few years later. Because of our geographical proximity, my wife and I were able to visit with you once at your home in the late 1990s.
In 2011, I interviewed with Mesquite Lutheran Church. They did not call me, but later in 2012, they called Patrick.
I am now in the midwest (in Manhattan, KS), and (it appears) that Patrick has now returned to the midwest.
God's peace be with you and your family.
In Christ,
Mike Schmidt

We give thanks for Patrick and his faithful service to Jesus as a pastor, loving husband and supportive father, a great friend. We are so glad we shared "Seoul" days with the O'Neals- so many great memories. Pastor O'Neal confirmed our son, Joel, while serving at International Lutheran Church in Seoul too. In addition, Patrick served as Council Chair for several years of Seoul Foreign School where our children attended. He did it all with a smile and calm and gentle nature....we are grateful to have been blessed by Patrick and his life lived in faith.

Dear Jennifer and family,
WHAT CANCER CANNOT DO
It cannot cripple love
It cannot shatter hope
It cannot corrode faith
It cannot destroy peace
It cannot kill friendships
It cannot suppress memories
It cannot silence courage
It cannot invade the soul
It cannot steal eternal life
It cannot conquer the spirit
May you all feel the strong and powerful hand of God as He holds you close to His heart during these sad and difficult days. May you find comfort in knowing that this is only a temporary separation and you/we will be together again. May you continue to be uplifted by His people, and feel His peace that surpasses all understanding.
You're in the arms of Jesus, and in our prayers.
Our deepest condolences,
Debbie & Richard Mallett

Dear Jennifer and family --- although we are very far away in England now, we still fondly remember our lunch with you after my mom passed away. We talked about our mutual heart for missions. Our family was so grateful that Pat took time to make home visits including communion to her her at home during those last years. As you grieve your loss, may the Lord comfort you each daily by the understanding of His grace and provision day by day. Pari and Diane Rickard

Pastor O'Neal will be greatly missed. He was a genuinely Godly and good man. My sympathy and condolences go out to his family. Know that all who knew him feel your loss with you while we rejoice that he is, in the words of the spiritual, "done with the troubles of the world" and has gone "to live with God."

Pastor O'Neal welcomed me with open arms to ILC in 2009 when I arrived in Seoul. Every time I heard a sermon of his, I felt connected to God. He was an integral part in strengthening my relationship with Christ. He will be greatly missed here on Earth, but I know he his at home with his Father now. My thoughts and prayers are with Jennifer and the kids as they go through this difficult time.
Blessings,

Patrick O'Neal was a fine pastor at the ILC in Seoul. We often discussed and debated theological issues, but always in the spirit of Christian fellowship. He was quite generous with his time, knowledge, and efforts to make the ILC a wonderful place to worship. Patrick will be missed very much. Our prayers are with O'Neal family during this difficult period of transition.
