Obituary of Jon Dana
A funeral service will be held Thursday, March 19, 2015 at 11:00am at Union Memorial Church in Milford. Visitation will begin one hour prior to the service at the church.
Jon Edward Dana, son of George and Hila (Stover) Dana, was born on March 22, 1955 in Missouri Valley, Iowa. Jon graduated from Milford High School in 1973, then attended NWICC in Sheldon, Iowa where he received his heavy equipment certification. Jon worked on new road construction all over Iowa, and was employed with Dickinson County Road Maintenance for many years prior to his retirement.
Jon was an admirer of wild birds and with care he set up and stocked bird feeding stations for many years. He was a member of Union Memorial Church in Milford, and a devoted Shriner, member of the Gloaming Lodge, where Jon had served as Worshipful Master. Big Jon was quite a site in the little Indee car maneuvers!
In the early 60's a song about a "gentle giant" rocked the charts, and for most of his life Jon was fondly known as "Big Jon."
Jon passed away March 14, 2015 at the Lake Park Care Center. He was preceded in death by his parents, and his brother-in-law Gary Wittrock.
Left to cherish his memory are sisters Roberta "Ruby" Wittrock, Terri Bronner (Kelvin), Jeannie Carney (Charlie); nephews Nathan and Luke Bronner, Jay Oberholser-Carney (Myia), Caleb Wittrock (Alexa); nieces Kelsie Wittrock (Brian), Holly Van Lenning; great nephews Riley and Liam Van Lenning, adopted daughters Dani and Abbi Dana, long-time friend Mike Koppert, and many more family members and friends.
