Obituary of Arlene Smith

A Memorial Gathering will be held on Friday, March 27, 2015 at Turner Jenness Funeral Home in Milford from 6:00-8:00 PM. Arlene Grace Smith was born July 31, 1928, in Lake Park, Iowa, the daughter of Minard and Grace Onita (Edmunds). She was raised and educated in rural Lake Park and attended country school. Arlene was united in marriage to Richard D. Smith on February 19, 1946. She was a hardworking homemaker, as she and Richard lived in several places until 1957, when they made their home in Adel, Iowa. Arlene moved back to the area in 2003 to be near family. Arlene was a member of Kingdom of Jehovah's Witnesses. Her favorite Bible verses were Isaiah 11:6-9 as well as Psalm 26. She was known as "Great Auntie Neen," by her nieces and nephews. Arlene had an extensive cardinal collection. She loved playing Yatzee, bingo, puzzles and word search puzzles, as well as watching "Dancing With The Stars." Above all, however, she loved spending time with family and friends. Arlene passed away at Hilltop Care Center in Spirit Lake on Thursday, March 19, 2015 at eighty-six years of age. She is survived by her sisters, Leona M. Smith, of Jefferson, Iowa and Charlotte L. Bonnstetter of Sioux Falls, South Dakota; several nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in eath by her husband, Richard Smith, brothers Gerold and Darrel, as well as a sister, Vera. She will be missed by many but never forgotten.
