Rick Van Goetsch was born November 28, 1954 in Spirit Lake, Iowa, the son of Elmer and Hilda (Probst) Goetsch. He was raised and educated in Spirit Lake.
Rick loved the outdoors, especially hunting and fishing with family and friends. He was quite talented in rebuilding and restoring cars and trucks. He enjoyed puzzles, playing cards and going asparagus hunting. He loved to draw and paint, putting great effort and time into the fine details. Rick had a fascination with the unexplained phenomenon of Big Foot and the paranormal.
Those who knew Rick would tell you he was a fighter in his younger years, but was just a "big guy with a big heart". If you needed help with anything, Rick was the guy to help out. He loved to tell stories and would sit and talk and share his knowledge. He especially had a special bond with his great nieces and nephews.
Rick passed away Saturday, April 11, 2015 at Lakes Regional Healthcare in Spirit Lake at sixty years of age.
He is survived by his siblings, Wayne (Sandy) Goetsch of Spirit Lake and Debra Letscher (George) of Spirit Lake; siser-in-law, Irene Goetsch; several nieces, nephew and friends.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Elmer and Hilda (Probst), sister, Dorothy Tenney and her husband, Lakin, and brothers, Larry Goetsch, and his wife, Alice, and Robert Goetsch.
Rick was a kind and gentle soul who will be missed.
