Obituary of Joanne Wunder

A funeral service for Joanne Wunder, 82, of Lake Park, will be held on Saturday, April 25, 2015 at 10:30 AM at First Presbyterian Church in Lake Park. Burial will follow at Silver Lake Cemetery. Visitation will take place one hour prior to the service on Saturday, April 25th at the church. Joanne Mavis Wunder, the daughter of Ethel (Wood) and Leon Lago, was born December 7, 1932 in May City, Iowa. Her family moved to Ocheyedan, Iowa and then to Lake Park, Iowa where she was raised and educated. Joanne was united in marriage to Kedric Wunder on January 16, 1952 at First Presbyterian Church in Lake Park, Iowa The couple first made their home in California, where Kedric served in the US Marine Corps. From there, they moved to Crane, Indiana before returning to Lake Park to raise their family. Joanne was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Lake Park, where she served as Elder and various other committees within the church. She was also a member of Order of Eastern Star, United Presbyterian Women and was involved in local bible studies. She enjoyed reading so much that in the last 4 ½ years, she checked out over 1075 books from the Lake Park Library. Joanne also enjoyed gardening, flower arranging, cooking, canning and in her earlier years camping and traveling. In addition to providing a loving home, Joanne was always willing to help Kedric with farming duties. Throughout her working career, she worked at two banks, grain elevator, insurance company and the Methodist Church Camp. Her faith and family were the most important things in her life, cherishing the time spent with her Bible devotions and time spent with her family, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Joanne passed away April 22, 2015 at Lakes Regional Healthcare at eighty-two years of age. She is survived by her husband of 63 years, Kedric; two sons, Keith (Kathy) Wunder of West Des Moines and Kevin (Sue Swaim) Wunder of Camarillo, California; grandchildren, Megan (Jeff) DePoorter of Altoona, Iowa, Clay Wunder of West Des Moines and Calvin Wunder of Omaha, Nebraska; great-grandchildren, Kendall and Bailey DePoorter; sisters, Irene Helmers, Lois Johnson and Arlis (Bob) Bruett; sister-in-law, Phyllis Lago; nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, Jeff and Ethel Lago; brothers, Lowell, Wayne and Don Lago and infant sister, Janice.
