Obituary of DeLila Johnson
DeLila Mae Baker was born on August 15, 1927 to Mildred (Bell) and Alva Baker in Spirit Lake, Iowa. She attended school in Spirit Lake and following graduation worked for the phone company.
On January 11, 1948 she married Nyle Johnson and left the phone company to become a farm wife and mother. To this union three children were born, Mark, Linda and Rick. Nyle and DeLila celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in 1998 shortly before Nyle passed away.
DeLila enjoyed her family and life on the farm. She was very involved at Little Sioux Lutheran Church in rural Milford. She also worked as a cook at Vacation Village and later Lakeside Lab during the summer months. DeLila loved quilting, gardening and spoiling her grandchildren. DeLila moved to an apartment in Milford and later to assisted living at Riverview Terrace in Spencer. No matter where she lived she enjoyed visiting with family, friends and neighbors over a good cup of coffee. DeLila was most often a very positive person and never met a stranger she didn't consider a potential friend.
Recently DeLila transitioned to the nursing home in Lake Mills, Iowa. She loved the workers and residents and was able to spend time daily with her youngest son, Rick.
On Sunday, June 9th DeLila went home to be with her Lord after a brief illness. She will be missed.
Left to cherish her memory are her children, Mark and wife Deb of Milford, Linda Carter and husband Craig of Myrtle Beach, SC, Rick and wife Chris of Lake Mills, Iowa, six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren, sisters-in-law Roseana Titterington, June Baker and Elaine Chalstrom, many friends and relatives.
