Obituary of John Luhring
Funeral services for John "Jack" Luhring, 87, of Spirit Lake, will be 11 am Friday, September 11, 2015, at First Presbyterian Church in Spirit Lake.
Visitation will be Thursday, September 10, 2015 after 4 pm with the family present from 5 - 7 pm at Turner Jenness Funeral Home in Spirit Lake.
John E."Jack" Luhring was born on March 19, 1928 in Cedar Rapids, Iowa to Otto Louis and Dorothy B. (Slemmons) Luhring.
Jack graduated from Alton High School in 1945. Upon graduating, he served his country in the United States Army until receiving an Honorable Discharge in 1949. He attended Iowa State University, graduating with a degree in Electrical Engineering in 1953.
Jack was united in marriage to Mary Joan Furne in 1951. Mary passed away in July, 2000. He married Peggy Joan McClintock on February 7, 2004 in Mesa, Arizona.
Jack worked for the Iowa Power and Light Company (now Mid American Energy) beginning in 1953 in both Des Moines and Council Bluffs, Iowa. He retired as Senior Vice President of the company in 1985.
Jack was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Spirit Lake. He enjoyed spending his spare time golfing, fishing and hunting along with quality time spent with his family.
Jack passed away Monday, September 7, 2015 at his home in Keelson Harbor in Spirit Lake at eighty seven years of age.
He is survived by is wife, Peggy Luhring of Spirit Lake; children, Rebecca Spetman (Randy), of Colorado Springs, CO, and Brad Luhring, of Des Moines; sister-in-law, Carol Luhring of Merced, CA; grandchildren, Brian Spetman, of Tallahassee, Florida and Kim Spetman, of Phoenix, Arizona; step-children Joan Falken (Larry) of Grand Junction, Colorado, Cary Luitjens (Neal) of Little Chute, Wisconsin and Dean McClintock of Parker, South Dakota; step-grandchildren, Eric, Megan, Ben and Sara; and step-great grandchildren, Hadley, Bridger, Iris, Lily and Violet.
He was preceded in death by his parents, first wife, Mary and a brother, Charles.
