Obituary of Betty Jean Louscher
Betty Jean Caviness Louscher passed from this world and into the arms of her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on March 23, 2013 in the hospice unit of Spencer Hospital. Betty was taken by a rare and fatal illness that strikes the brain of one in a million people. Her illness was elusive, difficult to diagnose and involved searches by the best neurologists in the world at Mayo Clinic in Rochester. She can truly claim II Timothy 4:7 - "I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith."
Betty was born May 6, 1961 in Spirit Lake, Iowa to Clifford and Donna (Tackett) Caviness. She attended and graduated from Spirit Lake Community Schools in 1979. On November 17, 1979 she married her high school sweetheart, John E. Louscher in Lake Park.
After working in retail for a few years she accepted a job at Dickinson County Memorial Hospital in the Medical Records Department. She then worked at Iowa Lakes Orthopedics for over twenty years. When those offices closed, she began her job at Spencer Hospital's business office. Each place she worked added to her long list of friends.
Betty and John were blessed in the birth of two boys, Taylor, currently attending USD in Vermillion and Cody, attending DMACC in Ankeny. The "boys" were her pride and joy from the start. She lovingly helped guide them through Okoboji school, Boy Scouts, football, wrestling, cross country, Sunday School, all the skinned knees and unexpected ER trips. That put her in the role of Sunday School teacher at Excelsior Methodist, Scout Leader and much more. She loved being a mom!
Betty passed away March 23, 2013 at the Spencer Hospital at fifty-one years of age.
Betty was preceded in death by her father, Clifford Dale Caviness, her brother Brett, who died in infancy, her sister-in-law Shirley Caviness, her unborn baby Gabrielle and her mother-in-law and father-in-law John and Peg Louscher.
Left to grieve are her husband of thirty-three years, John; sons, Taylor and Cody; mother, Donna Caviness, step-mother-in-law, Raeburn Louscher; brothers, Gary (Carole) of Spirit Lake; Patrick (Mary) of Nevada, Missouri, Tom of Milford and Mike (Janet) of Miller, South Dakota; nieces and nephews, Shelly (Wayne) Walstead, Nathan (Carrie) Caviness, Adam (Krystal) Caviness, Matt Caviness, Courtney and Brett Caviness, Laura, Will, and Martina Kittelson-Caviness; John's brother, David (Sue) Louscher of Ohio, Larry (Mary) Louscher of Colorado and sister, Linda Louscher of Texas; nieces and nephews: Kira, Michelle and Chris Louscher and Grace Bass. She also leaves other family and countless friends.
Betty's life was filled with compassion, loving and helping others to brighten their day with her sunny smile, twinkling eyes and a friendly "hello". All those who met her knew her and all who knew her will miss her.
