Obituary of Marcia Andersen
A funeral service for Marcia Andersen will be held Saturday, January 9, 2016 at First Presbyterian Church in Spirit Lake at 10:30 AM. Interment will follow at Memory Gardens in Spirit Lake. A visitation will be held on Friday, January 8, 2016 from 5-7 P.M. at Turner Jenness Funeral Home in Spirit Lake, Iowa.
Marcia Lee Andersen, the daughter of Nedra Elizabeth (Coon) Purdy and George Emory Goddard, was born January 10, 1936 in Des Moines, Iowa. When Marcia was fourteen, she was able to live with her father in Japan for two years while he was in the service. She graduated from Des Moines Technical High on January 22, 1953.
On November 25, 1954, Marcia was united in marriage to Stanley Andersen in Des Moines. The couple also lived in Minneapolis, Mankato and Sioux Falls, South Dakota. During the summer of 1966, they moved to Spirit Lake where they became part owners of Andersen-Jeck Motors and eventually owned Andersen Motors. Marcia was the bookkeeper and office manager for many years while raising their family. Marcia remained in Spirit Lake the rest of her life until recently moving to her daughter's home in Wilder, Minnesota.
Marcia belonged to the First Presbyterian Church where she was a Sunday school teacher, deacon and in the church choir for many years. She was very involved in missions and after retiring, was a bookkeeper for Shepherd's Fold Ministry in Milford. Marcia sang in the musical group, "The Joyful Noise", was a member of the PEO and also a cub scout and girl scout leader. She enjoyed traveling, music, camping, boating, fishing, reading, sewing and gardening. Most of all, she enjoyed family get-togethers and spending time with her grandchildren.
Marcia passed away peacefully after a long, brave battle with Alzheimer's Disease on January 6, 2016 at her daughter's home in Wilder, Minnesota at seventy-nine years of age.
She is survived by her son, Roger (Laureen) Andersen of Spirit Lake and their daughter, Emily of Spencer; daughter, Marlys (Tom) Christensen of Windom, Minnesota and their daughter, Tara of Windom; daughter, Casey of Mesa, Arizona; daughter, Leslie of Wilder, Minnesota and her daughter, Bailey of Springfield, Illinois.
Marcia was preceded in death by her husband, Stan Andersen; her parents; sister, Judy and brother, George.
