Obituary of Evelyn Dotson

Memorial services for Evelyn Dotson, 94, will be held 11 am, Saturday, June 4, 2016 at Turner Jenness Funeral Home in Milford. Interment will be at Fairview Cemetery in rural Langdon, Iowa. Mrs. Dotson passed away Saturday, April 23, 2016 at Hawkeye Care Center in Milford. Evelyn Maxine (Boles) Dotson, the daughter of Raymond J. and Sadie A. Boles was born February 24, 1922, on a farm near Hartley, Iowa. She had three brothers, Earl, Roy and Ralph. She graduated from Hartley High School in 1940. On March 27, 1946, Evelyn was united in marriage to Dale Dotson at the Terril Methodist Church. From this union were born three children, one son and two daughters. Dale & Evelyn started raising their family in a small house on the Dan Green Slough near Dickens. In 1957, they moved to a farm northeast of Spencer and in 1982 to their retirement home on Lake Minnewashta. They farmed in the Terril, Dickens and Spencer areas their entire lives. Before Evelyn married, she did in home child care and house cleaning. She later became a housewife, farm hand, interior decorator, waitress, and during the Spencer fair, a concession clerk. Her interests and hobbies were sewing, quilting, reading, scrapbooks, gardening, dancing, fishing, drawing, journaling, and card club. She was a member of the Langdon Methodist Church and later the Arnolds Park Calvary Methodist. In Langdon she helped with Sunday School and Youth Fellowship, assisted with the choir, and held offices in the Women's Society of Christian Service (WSCS). She was active in PTA at Lake Center School and organized a 4-H club in the Spencer community, taking her daughters to 4-H meetings and helping them with their projects. She was also active with the Spencer Cooperative Elevator Board and a member of the Eagles Club in Spencer. When she had any spare time, she loved visiting with old friends and making new ones. Evelyn passed away at Hawkeye Care Center, Spirit Lake, IA on April 23, 2016 at 94 years of age. She was preceded in death by her parents Ray and Sadie Boles, husband Dale, brothers Earl, Roy and Ralph Boles, and grandson Nathan Woodley. Left to cherish her memory are three children; Ronald and his wife Darla of Lorena, TX; Barbara and her husband Wayne Woodley of Arnolds Park; and Melody and her husband Kent Brinkley of Lyons, CO; 6 grandchildren; 17 great grandchildren; 2 great-great grandchildren; as well as other relatives and many friends. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given in Evelyn's name.
