Obituary of Edith Long

A funeral service for Edith Long, age 88, of Milford, will be held Tuesday, May 3, 2016 at 10:30 AM at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Milford. Burial will be at Calvary Cemetery in Milford. Visitation will be on Monday, May 2nd after 4:00pm with the family present from 5:00-7:00pm at the St. Joseph Parish Center. There will also be a Parish Rosary at 7:00pm. Edith (Cecilia) Long was born July 30, 1927, the fourth child of Margaret and Joe Berg of Milford, Iowa. She attended St. Joseph Catholic School and then graduated from Milford High School. She married Francis Long on June 6, 1949 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Milford, Iowa. The couple enjoyed farming together all their lives in the Milford area. Edith was still living on the farm that she and Francis purchased fifty years ago. Edith loved her family dearly and was always there for them. She had a green thumb when it came to her beautiful flower and vegetable gardens. Cooking was another favorite activity. There was never a recipe Edith did not keep to try later. She was a talented seamstress, quilter and embroiderer. Playing cards, games and word puzzles were some of Edith's favorite pasttimes. She also had a faithful companion, her dog, Molly. Edith passed away Thursday, April 28, 2016 at Avera Heart Hospital in Sioux Falls, South Dakota at the age of 88. Left to cherish her memory are her daughters Susan (Dean) Schoning of Milford, Patricia (Dan) Quiles of Iowa City, Iowa and Judy (Gene) Hauge of Iowa City, Iowa. Grandchildren Heidi Schoning Beck and her husband Bryan of Ida Grove, Iowa, Eric Quiles and his wife Emily of Manhattan, Kansas, Ryan Quiles and his fiancé Lara Shema of Solon, Iowa, Nolan Hauge of Milford and Madison Hauge of Iowa City, Iowa. Two great grandchildren, Taylor and Myles Beck of Ida Grove, Iowa. Her siblings are John Berg, Art Berg, Cecilia Janssen, Catherine Putensen and James Berg, and numerous nieces and nephews. Edith was preceded in death by her husband, Francis and her son, Raymond, sisters Josephine, twin sister Ethel, Agnes, and brother Charles.
