Obituary of Esther Kastrup

Esther R. Kastrup, age 95, of Milford and formerly of Arnolds Park, passed away on to eternal rest of Saturday, May 14, 2016 at Lakes Regional Healthcare in Spirit Lake. A memorial service will be held at 1:30pm on Thursday, May 19, 2016 at Turner Jenness Funeral Home in Spirit Lake with Pastor Sarah Rohret of the Calvary United Methodist Church of Arnolds Park officiating. Burial will be at Okoboji Cemetery in Arnolds Park. There will be a visitation on Wednesday, May 18th at 4:00 with family present from 5:00-7:00 PM at Turner Jenness Funeral Home in Spirit Lake, Iowa. Esther Ruth Sittler, the daughter of John E. Sittler and Lola Henrietta Beard, was born on November 12, 1920 in Hartley, Iowa. She graduated from Arnolds Park High School in 1938. She was honored by the Arnolds Park Alumni Assn. in 2013 on the 75th anniversary of her graduation from that school. On March 30, 1942, Esther was united in marriage with Loran W. Kastrup in Las Vegas, Nevada. Three children were born during their marriage: Gary and twins, Kent and Kathi. The family made their home in Arnolds Park where Loran owned and operated Kastrup Beauty Salon for many years. Esther was deeply loved by her family and greatly admired by all those who came to know her. She was an excellent cook who always provided home-cooked meals and baked goods for her family. She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary and a past Dickinson County chairman of the March of Dimes program. For over 27 years, Esther worked as a switchboard operator at the Dickinson County Memorial Hospital, now Lakes Regional Healthcare. For several years, she also served as hostess at the Holiday Inn restaurant in Okoboji, now Minervas at Arrowood Resort. Left to cherish her memory is her sister, Florence "Penny" Janssen of Spencer, Iowa; son, Gary Kastrup and his partner, Sandra Watts, of Newell, Iowa; son, Kent Kastrup and his wife, Joann of Spirit Lake, Iowa; daughter, Kathi Davis of Hampton, Virginia; three grandsons, Randy Watts of Bellbrook, Ohio, Michael Kastrup and Jamie of Des Moines, Iowa and Robbie and Stephanie Baiotto of Churchville, Virginia; one granddaughter, Lori and Davie Ray of Natalia, Texas; numerous great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins and host of friends and acquaintances. Esther was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Loran; one brother, Lawrence Sittler; brother-in-law, Jesse Kastrup and his wife, Gertrude; brother-in-law, Ward "Hap" Janssen; and son-in-law, Andrew Davis.
