Obituary of Elberta Erickson

A funeral service for Elberta Erickson, age 88, of Spirit Lake and formerly of Terril, will be held Tuesday, June 14th at 11:00 AM at Turner Jenness Funeral Home in Milford. Visitation will begin at 9:30 AM on Tuesday at the funeral home. Elberta Mae Erickson was born July 22, 1927 in Sutherland, Iowa to Ray and Katie (Streufert) Huss. Throughout her childhood, she and her parents moved several times to farm throughout Clay County, Iowa. Elberta graduated from Cornell School and then worked for J.C. Penneys in Spencer for several years. During this time, she met and married Carroll "Don" Erickson on August 4, 1948. With one daughter, they moved to Terril in 1956, where they owned and operated the DX Gas and Service Station. In the years following, they had another daughter. Elberta was a devoted Mom and Wife as their girls both went through school with their numerous activities in Terril and as Don then worked for Wells Blue Bunny and the Estherville Schools. Following Don's retirement, she continued to care for him until his death in 2002. Elberta continued living in Terril until late in 2013 when she moved to Spirit Lake. She passed away at the Hawkeye Care Center on Friday, June 10, 2016, at the age of 88. Elberta was a member of the Terril Legion Auxiliary and St. Joseph Catholic Church. She is survived by her daughters, Carol (Randy) Blass of Estherville and Karen (Larry) Stoller of Spirit Lake, grandchildren Matt (Jen) Blass of Gruver, Tricia Blass of Savannah, Georgia, Lyndsi (Jesse) Logan of Milford and Summer Stoller of Spirit Lake, great-grandchildren Jaycee Blass, Reece Logan and Hayden Blass, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Elberta was preceded in death by her parents, husband, son-in-law and grandchildren Katie Ridenour (1989) and Steve Blass (2013).
