Obituary of Mary Haugland

A funeral service for Mary Haugland, age 78, of Spirit Lake, will be held Monday, June 27, 2016 at 2:00pm at Crosswinds Church in Spirit Lake. Burial will be at Lakeview Gardens Cemetery. Visitation will begin one hour prior to the service at the church. Mary Lou Haugland, the daughter of Clarence and Gertrude (Fisher) Scott, was born June 7, 1938 in Estherville, Iowa. She graduated from Estherville High School. On April 30, 1965, Mary was married to Herald Haugland in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. They lived east of Spirit Lake where Herald farmed before moving to Spirit Lake in 1967. Mary was employed at Berkley's for over seventeen years. She enjoyed cooking, baking and canning. Mary passed away June 21, 2016 at Hawkeye Care Center in Spirit Lake at seventy-eight years of age. She is survived by two sons, Tony Haugland of Spirit Lake, Iowa and Joe Haugland of Clover, Virginia; grandchildren, Amy Navarro and Randy Haugland; great-grandchildren, Joseph and Ethan; siblings, Kay Schumacher, Bill Scott and Shirley Crosby. Mary was preceded in death by her husband, Herald in 1994 and her brother, Vern.
