Obituary of Wayne Otto Schroeder

A funeral service for Wayne Otto Schroeder, 94, of Spirit Lake, will be held Saturday, September 3, 2016 at 2:00 PM at the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Spirit Lake. Visitation will begin one hour prior to service at the church. Interment will be at Lakeview Cemetery in Spirit Lake. Wayne Otto Schroeder, the son of Otto and Olga Schroeder, was born December 8, 1921, in Dickinson County, near Lake Park, Iowa. He was raised and educated near Lake Park, and graduated from Excelsior High School. Wayne was a certified welder graduating from Welding Technology School in Omaha NE. On February 14, 1943, Wayne was united in marriage to Helen Elizabeth Welker in Bremerton, Washington. The couple made their home for two years in Bremerton, where Wayne worked, as a welder at the US Naval Shipyards and Helen worked for the USO as a secretary. The couple moved back to Iowa to farm during war times near May City, Iowa in 1945, moved to the family farm down the road, where they raised their three daughters. Wayne started farming with horses given to him from his father and their names were "Dollie and Jess". Wayne loved farming. They were members of the St. John's Lutheran Church in May City, Iowa. Wayne was an avid fisherman, hunter, and trapper. He also liked to play cards, especially 500 and "Rook". His greatest joy was spending time with his three daughters and their families, his grandchildren and Great grandchildren. He and Helen attended most all family reunion's and stayed in touch with many nieces and nephews and cousins. On August 24, 2016, Wayne passed away at the Hawkeye Care Center in Milford, Iowa at ninety-four years of age with his family present. He is survived by his wife, Helen Elizabeth; daughters, Teri Ann Dingel (Douglas), Judy Elizabeth Ringler Mountain (Thomas) and Mary Jo Corcoran (Thomas). He is also survived by his seven grandchildren, Benjamin Dingel (Angela) and great grandchildren Ellie and Noah Dingel, Molly Dingel (James Rechs) and great grandchildren Samuel and Aden Rechs, Kara E. Schulz (Scott) and great grandchildren Branden, Zackary, Andrew and Jacob; Richard Wayne Ringler (Jessica) and great grandchildren Peyton, Harper and Ryker, Michael Eckard (Jodie) and great grandchildren Jayden and CeCe, Adam Eckard (Autumn Mankle) and great grandchildren Jaxson and Aspen, Deidre Schneider (Kurt) and great grandchildren Steven and Matthew. Wayne was preceded in death by his father, Otto Schroeder, mother, Olga Schroeder; brothers, Ralph and Vernne; sisters Sylvia, Vera, Avonne and Laura. Wayne was very much loved by his family and friends. He will be greatly missed.
