Rosalie Irene (Duhn) Hoyt was born October 17, 1927 in Graettinger, Iowa to Soren Walter Duhn and Marie Genevieve (Mahan) Duhn. Rosalie spent her childhood years on the family century farm in Graettinger where she met the love of her life, George, while working at the movie theatre. Rosalie graduated from Graettinger Public School in 1946 then went to Mankato Business School in Mankato, Minnesota. Following graduation she worked at Federated Mutual Insurance in Owatonna, Minnesota. She was so proud of her children's business careers and often gave reasons that it was because of her schooling!
On April 21, 1948, she was married to George Carl Hoyt in Graettinger, Iowa. They began their life together in Graettinger where Rosalie became a homemaker. They moved to Ringsted where they operated their own meat locker for several years before moving to Milford to raise their family. Upon George's retirement they once again went into business together owning and operating George's Can and Bottle Redemption Center in Milford, Iowa. After the passing of her husband in 2007, she left her home of 40 years and relocated to Golf View condominiums in Spencer where her children could help care for her.
She was a member of St Joseph Catholic Church in Milford and Sacred Heart in Spencer. She was a 50 year member of Catholic Daughters, where she often volunteered to quilt for the missions. Rosalie enjoyed fishing with George, gardening, embroidering, playing cards and doing puzzles. The cookie jar was never empty when grandchildren came to visit. She dearly loved her babies. She had a fabulous collection of music boxes and decorative cats and we cannot leave out her love for chocolate, especially 3 Musketeer candy bars!
Rosalie died peacefully Tuesday, September 6, 2016 at the Longhouse Nursing Home in Spencer, Iowa.
She is survived by her children, Michael (Dianne) Hoyt of Okoboji, Iowa, Marilyn Napp of Fort Dodge, Iowa, Marcia (Marvin) Gamble of Vermillion, South Dakota, Martin Hoyt of Lake Park, Iowa and Marie (Tom) Johnson of Spencer, Iowa; nine grandchildren, David (Cristy) Napp, Andrew Hoyt, Mark (Val) Gamble, Jennifer (Adam) White, Carl (Stephanie) Napp, Timothy Gamble, William (Melanie) Gamble, Heather (Mike) Dean and Jessica (Jon) LaCroix; eleven great-grandchildren, Adam (Courtney), Anthony, Noah, Mara, Hayden, Emmalie, Ethan, Justin, Rhys, Matthew, and Eliana.
