Obituary of Karen De Voll
Services for Karen De Voll, age 62, of Spirit Lake, will be held at 10:30 am Monday, October 24, 2016, at Turner Jenness Funeral Home in Spirit Lake. Interment will be at Lakeview Gardens Cemetery in Spirit Lake. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
Memorials will go to Oaxaca Streetchildren Grassroots Project.
Karen Sue De Voll, the daughter of Eileen (Angell) and Carroll De Voll, was born August 18, 1954 in Spirit Lake, Iowa. After graduating from Spirit Lake High School in 1972, she received her BA Degree from Iowa State University in 1977.
Karen worked as an assistant store team leader at the Target Stores, Inc. in Danville, IL, Madison, TN and Ames, IA for seventeen years. She later worked as a branch manager at Citizens Community Credit Union in Spirit Lake for fifteen years. Karen moved back to Spirit Lake in 1996.
In Karen's earlier years, she was on the High School Homecoming Court, a member of the National Honor Society and Worthy Advisor of Rainbow for Girls. She attended the United Methodist Church in Spirit Lake, was involved in the Lakes Community Theatre and was a member of the VFW Auxiliary and Iowa Navy Commodores. Karen enjoyed playing bingo, trivia games, music, theatre, crafts and watching old movies.
Karen passed away October 19, 2016 at the Spencer Municipal Hospital in Spencer, IA at sixty-two years of age.
She is survived by her sister, Jackie (Bill) Carpenter of Okoboji, IA; brother, Brad De Voll of Estherville, IA; nieces, Carri (Dan) Duitsman of Estherville, IA, Krista De Voll, Sabrina De Voll and Nikita DeVoll; nephew, Donovan (Susan) Carpenter of Brandon, SD; great-nieces, Rebekah Carpenter and Kira De Voll; great-nephews, Devin Carpenter, Parker, Warren and Bennett Duitsman, Carson Hendrickson and Doumis De Voll.
Karen was preceded in death by her parents, Carroll and Eileen De Voll.
